Atelier Information

 

Atelier Saito exhibits and sells Buddha statues and hanging Buddha.

These Buddha statues are made from wood and metal casting.

 

Wood Carving Work:

Most of works are made from Kiso Hinoki cypress and carved from a block of wood.

In a wooden Buddha statue, fine grain of cypress appears gently on its face.

It will heal your mind and make you feel at ease.

 

Metal Casting Work:

Metal works are made by lost wax process ( shaving and finishing a solid wax to make a wax model).

Metal works are mainly casted in silver, bronze and brass.

Surface of a raw casting work is cleaned and polished. Depending on a figure of Buddha, it will be further finished in copper color, patina,black and gold leaf.

Metal works are made as small Buddha statues and also apllied with accessories of wooden Buddha.

Unlike an atomosphere of wooden work, metal Buddha statues have a taste that seems to have passage for hundreds years.

 

All works are unique and totally handmade with all our heart.

You can put in next to your Buddhist altar, or you can casually use it as an art object on your desk or wall.

Name : Koji Saito / Sculptor

Born in Tokyo Japan in 1949, lives in Nerima-ku Tokyo

Profession:  Petroleum & Petrochemical plant process engineer ( chemical engineering)

 

2002: Started Buddha sculpture ( wood carving) under the Buddhist master Yoshimichi Enomoto.

 

2013:Started casting ( lost wax process) under the casting master Chiharu Akaiwa.

 

2013/2018:Dedicated the Unchu Bodhisattva statues to Kikoji Temple ( Sugawara-cho , Nara City Japan)

 

2020: Held an exibition of Buddha statue together with the Buddhist master Yoshimichi Enomoto at the Transportation Hall in Yurakucho Tokyo.
